Yamaneko-Ryu Karate was started in 1985 in Durban KZN by the late Sensei Ian Lennox who trained under Shihan Kenny Uytenbogaardt, a 7th Dan Kyokushin Karateka.Yamaneko-Ryu taught only Kyokushin Karate and Knockdown Fighting, Sensei Ian Lennox then passed it on to Sensei Ivan Rossi.
Sensei Ivan continued to grow Yamaneko-Ryu to over 300 students with many Natal Championships and medals won before he left for Cape Town. Sensei Ivan and Sensei Giovanni then started again in Cape Town.
After many years of training students in Kyokushin Karate, we have decided to move over to SA Shotokan Karate under the guidance of Hanshi Koos Burger - 9th Dan and the Shihan-Kai.
Shotokan Karate is a very similar to Kyokushin Karate and as such makes this an easy decision to move. We are now able to offer our students Provincial Colours and SA Colours, we are also able to offer the students a chance to enter into the International Competitions and also the Common Wealth Games for Karate.
